Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi delivered a breathtaking performance in the Duleep Trophy 2026 first semi-final, smashing a sensational 92 runs from just 81 balls for East Zone against Central Zone. His fearless assault featured seven fours and seven sixes, putting the young star firmly in the spotlight.

A Record-Breaking Knock
Sooryavanshi reached his half-century in just 42 balls, becoming the youngest player in Duleep Trophy history to score a fifty. At 15 years and 175 days, he shattered a record that had stood for 57 years, previously held by Laxman Singh.
His explosive innings came after Central Zone were bowled out for 266 runs. Sooryavanshi then joined forces with experienced opener Abhimanyu Easwaran, producing a magnificent 161-run opening partnership that immediately put East Zone in a commanding position.

So Close to a Dream Century
The only heartbreak came when Sooryavanshi fell for 92, just eight runs short of a memorable century. Harsh Dubey eventually ended his spectacular stay at the crease.
Yet the teenager’s innings was much more than just numbers. His aggressive strokeplay, fearless intent and ability to adapt to the bowling attack demonstrated remarkable maturity for a player so young.
