A devastating flash flood in northern Nepal has triggered a major humanitarian crisis, leaving over 100 Indian nationals among hundreds of people reported missing. The disaster has also claimed lives, although the exact death toll is still changing as rescue teams reach the affected areas.

According to the latest available reports, 384 travellers were reported missing, including 105 Indian nationals, after an ice-and-rock avalanche and river blockage triggered catastrophic flooding in Nepal’s Himalayan border region. Villages, roads and hydropower projects were severely damaged, while search and rescue operations continue under extremely difficult conditions.
The disaster has also put Bihar and Uttar Pradesh on high alert because rivers flowing from Nepal could carry increased water downstream into India. Authorities have intensified monitoring, particularly in areas along the Gandak and Narayani river systems, and residents in vulnerable areas have been urged to follow official warnings.
The situation remains heartbreaking and tense: families are desperately waiting for news of their loved ones as rescuers race against time. The number of casualties and missing people may change as authorities continue their search and receive updated information from the disaster zone.
