Divya Mittal, who served in several important roles in Uttar Pradesh, including as District Magistrate of Deoria and Mirzapur, was most recently serving as Special Secretary in the Revenue Department. Her resignation is now subject to the required government process and approval.

From London to the IAS: A Dream That Brought Her Home

Divya’s journey has been anything but ordinary. After studying at IIT Delhi and IIM Bangalore, she secured a job in London. But despite achieving professional success abroad, she felt something was missing—a deeper connection with her country and a desire to contribute to India’s future.

She eventually returned to India and joined the IAS, describing her decision as an effort to repay what she called her “debt to this soil.”

“The Post Is Gone, But the Dream Is Not”

In her emotional farewell message, Mittal reflected on the people she served and the lessons she learned during her career. She spoke about helping families secure land rights, supporting persons with disabilities and ensuring water reached farmers.

One particular memory deeply moved her—the blessing of an elderly woman after water was brought to her village for the first time. Mittal said that although her official position has ended, that blessing and her dream for the country will remain with her for life.

A Powerful New Chapter Begins

Divya Mittal’s resignation marks more than the end of a government position—it represents the beginning of a new and uncertain chapter. While she has not publicly detailed her next step, her message strongly suggests that her commitment to serving people and pursuing her larger dream will continue beyond the IAS.

Her story is a powerful reminder that sometimes leaving a prestigious position does not mean abandoning a dream. For Divya Mittal, the chair may be behind her—but the purpose, memories and aspirations remain alive.
