Chhattisgarh is witnessing a significant shift in administrative leadership, with 12 districts now headed by women collectors. The latest appointments reflect the state government’s growing reliance on women IAS officers for key field-level responsibilities. Recent reports describe the move as a major push toward women-led administration and stronger representation of women in senior governance roles.

12 Districts Now Led by Women Collectors
The increasing number of women collectors marks a notable development in Chhattisgarh’s administrative landscape. Earlier in May, the number of women district collectors had reached 10, the highest level reported in the state’s history at that time.
The latest appointments have further expanded women’s presence in district-level administration, with 12 districts now under the leadership of women collectors. The appointments are being viewed as a reflection of confidence in the leadership, administrative experience and decision-making capabilities of women IAS officers.
Tanuja Takes on MMAC Responsibility
Alongside the district-level appointments, Tanuja, who is associated with the state’s Sports and Youth Welfare Department, has been given responsibility for MMAC. The move adds another important administrative assignment to her portfolio.
The development comes as Chhattisgarh continues to place women officers in significant positions across government departments and field administration.
A Strong Message on Women’s Leadership
The growing presence of women in senior administrative positions sends a strong message about the state’s approach to women’s leadership and empowerment.
Women collectors are responsible for implementing government programmes, coordinating district administration, overseeing development initiatives and responding to local public concerns. Their leadership can therefore have a direct impact on governance at the grassroots level.
The latest appointments are being closely watched as Chhattisgarh expands the role of women officers in key administrative positions.
