India-Made Bharat Cell Takes Centre Stage

The biggest talking point is the scooter’s indigenous LFP cell technology. Ola says its Bharat Cell platform was developed at its Battery Innovation Centre in Bengaluru and manufactured at its Gigafactory in Tamil Nadu.

The company says producing the cells in-house can help reduce battery costs, potentially making advanced EV technology more accessible to everyday Indian buyers.

Smart Features Packed In

Despite its affordable positioning, the S1Z comes with MoveOS 5, GPS navigation, cruise control, regenerative braking, reverse mode and over-the-air software updates. It also offers features such as geo-fencing, time-fencing and ride statistics through the Ola Electric app.

When Will Deliveries Begin?

The 3.1 kWh S1Z is scheduled to begin deliveries in December 2026, while deliveries of the 5.1 kWh version are expected to start in March 2027. The scooter gets 12-inch wheels and is offered in multiple colour options.

Why the S1Z Matters

The S1Z is more than another electric scooter launch. By bringing home-grown LFP battery technology, long claimed range and smart features to a sub-₹1 lakh starting price, Ola Electric is making a strong attempt to win over India’s mass-market EV buyers.

The big question now is whether the S1Z can turn its aggressive pricing and Made-in-India battery technology into a major breakthrough for Ola Electric in an increasingly competitive electric scooter market.
