Mumbai | August 28, 2026
Mumbai residents are set for a fresh inflation shock just before the festive season. The Mumbai Milk Producers Association has announced a ₹9-per-litre increase in the wholesale price of fresh milk, effective September 1, 2026.

Milk Price to Rise From ₹93 to ₹102
The current wholesale price of fresh milk in Mumbai is ₹93 per litre. From September 1, it will rise to ₹102 per litre. The revised rate is scheduled to remain in effect until February 28, 2027.
Why Is Milk Becoming More Expensive?
The association has cited a sharp rise in the cost of dairy animals and cattle feed. Feed prices for items including grains and other ingredients have reportedly increased by up to 25%, putting additional financial pressure on milk producers.
Will Consumers Pay ₹9 More?
Importantly, the announced ₹9 increase refers to the wholesale price of fresh milk. The final retail price paid by consumers can vary depending on local sellers, distribution costs and margins. The hike should also not automatically be interpreted as a ₹9 increase for every packaged milk brand.
